Mela is the Amharic word for solution — a way through. It is what clients hire us to find, and the standard we hold every engagement to: not a deliverable, a way through the problem.
The weave in our mark comes from the borders of Ethiopian tibeb weaving: separate threads that only become strong once they cross. It is a fair description of enterprise data, and of what we do with it.
Origins
Founded inside a software company, not a sales office.
Mela Consulting is the consulting and professional-services business of MelaTeck, a licensed Ethiopian software company that builds and operates its own products.
Our team brings hands-on experience from large North American utilities, including enterprise reporting, data modernization, and customer and billing systems. Our experience spans legacy-to-modern migrations, Oracle Utilities CC&B and MDM, Power BI, Databricks, SQL and enterprise data modelling. That is where the firm’s instincts come from: complex data, regulatory stakes, and no tolerance for a wrong number. It is also why energy and utilities remain our founding specialism.
Mela Consulting is new. The experience is not.
Enterprises and public institutions in Ethiopia and across East Africa run the same core systems as their peers anywhere, and face the same reporting and automation problems. What has been scarce is delivery at the level a multinational would expect, from people who understand the ground. AI has changed what a small, senior team can deliver. We started Mela Consulting to bring the two together.

Engineering excellence is the product
Consulting advice is cheap. Tested pipelines, trusted models and monitored workflows that still run in three years are what you are paying for.
Business understanding first
We start with how revenue is earned, how work moves and where it gets stuck — and only then with architecture. Technology that does not change a number is decoration.
Outcomes reported honestly
Every engagement defines the number it exists to move and reports against it, including when the result is smaller than hoped.
Long-term partnerships over projects
The best work happens with clients who let us stay close to the problem. We would rather build a relationship over years than a deck over weeks.
Local knowledge, no local discount
We understand procurement cycles, connectivity realities and the talent market in East Africa. We do not lower the engineering bar to fit them.
